2015 NFL Week 2 Multi

The opening week of the 2015 NFL season saw a lot of upsets with sides proving the experts wrong with strong performances. As we take a look at week 2 we will have to determine whether those sides can back it up or whether it was just a one of match where they were able to lift for their season opener.

To kick off the weekend we will be backing the Kansas City Chiefs to defeat Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos at home on Friday. The Chiefs defence last weekend was strong in the first half before letting in 20 points in the second as they were a bit lacklustre. Whilst the Broncos were able to win their season opener on the back of their defence which is surprising as they have been known for being such a strong offensive team over the past two seasons. It goes to show the changes that were made over the offseason have really affected their offence and it could also be father time catching up with Manning. Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith still hasn’t found a receiver for a touchdown in over a season but he did throw three touchdown passes in their victory.

Panthers Quarterback Cam Newton had a rough start to the season as he was only able to throw one touchdown pass against the Jaguars who aren’t known for their defence. He was also using his legs a lot as a rusher and only averaged 2.5 yards after 14 carries. However, their defence was strong and was able to pick off Bortles and also restrict them to only three field goals and no touchdowns. The Texans were able to score 20 unanswered points in the second half but they lost the match in the first half letting in 27 against the Chiefs. They need to come out ready to go or risk losing back-to-back games to start the season.

The Detroit Lions suffered a loss at San Diego last week as they allowed Phillip Rivers and the chargers to rally for 30 straight points. The quarterback threw an incredible 35 of 42 attempts, however the Vikings won’t pose as big of a threat this weekend as Teddy Bridgewater failed to throw for a first down conversion when on their third down. The Vikings offence, defence and even special teams was fairly awful and despite the Lions being the underdogs they will come away with a victory in this one.

It is a new year but it is the same old problems for Chicago with quarterback Jay Cutler continuing his struggles from last season. The quarterback only completed half of his passes and threw one touchdown and an interception. Whilst Carson Palmer didn’t seem to be hampered by the knee injury that ended his season last year as he threw for over 300 yards and three touchdowns. They will need to stop the run game of Chicago and if they succeed in doing that then the game will be there’s to lose.
