2016 Oaks Day Betting Multi

Oaks Day Racing

Melbourne Cup may be behind us, but the Melbourne Cup Carnival continues on Thursday for the running of the 2016 Crown Oaks. It’s a world-class group 1 2500m staying race for the 3YO fillies.

It’s actually a pretty solid days racing with stars of the track like Yankee Rose, Terravista and the new kid on the block Hellbent all down to run on the card. We’ve found some cracking betting opportunities and have pooled them together to form our multi of the day!

The track is currently rated a Good 4 with the Rail Out 3m the entire circuit with fine weather expected tomorrow. The track should play evenly around the circle and favour the middle to outside in races down the straight.

LEG 1 – Race 1 #17 Whirlpool @ $3.20 to place

As we saw on Tuesday, wide draws are not always a disadvantage and with an ounce of luck in finding a position in running it will allow this horse to sling into the best part of the track (down the middle) upon straightening. She is the only runner in the race coming out of a Group race at its previous start and she looks like she will run out a strong 1700m whereas some of this mares are probably better suited at 1600m and below. Lightly raced and the one with some upside over distance we think she will run a big race at double figure odds.

LEG 2 – Race 8 #7 Harlow Gold @ $2.15 to place

Yankee Rose is deserved favourite in the feature race but there is some question marks on her ability to run a strong 2500m and if the Cox Plate run took the wind out of her a bit as it was such a brutally run lead-in. Harlow Gold has been set for this race from the get-go and has drawn to get the perfect run midfield with cover and conserve all of her energy to be strong late. She won in great fashion first-up before an even effort in the Guineas. She then went to Moonee Valley to take on the boys over 2040m where she didn’t handle the track at all but still ran fairly to finish next to Prized Icon who came out and won the Group 1 Victorian Derby on Saturday.

LEG 3 – Race 9 #5 Kentucky Miss @ $2.15 to place

The Joe Pride stable is going along nicely and this filly looks perfectly placed to win this race. For the safety of the multi we will take the better than evens price for her to place though. She has run and won down the Flemington straight which is an undeniable advantage. She is also drawn the outside which given how the straight races played on Derby and Cup day also looks to be a significant advantage. After her win down the straight she went to the trials before winning again on her home track at Warwick Farm. She sets up perfectly here given a nice freshen up once again and is the horse to beat.
