2017-18 NFL Playoffs Multi: Divisional Round

In the Wildcard Playoffs, our NFL multi finished 3-1 after the Titans caused a massive upset in Kansas City. In the Divisional Round, we are sticking with the four favourites as they all look strong on paper.

In the first leg of our NFL multi, we’re taking the Falcons over the Eagles. The Falcons proved us right with an upset against the fancied Rams in Los Angeles last game. They now head on the road again to Philadelphia, but this time the Falcons are favourites. The key for Atlanta this season and against the Rams, is the defence has significantly improved compared to last season. They kept Todd Gurley fairly quiet and Jared Goff couldn’t find time to throw. The Eagles are starting Nick Foles and that’s the concern for a 13-3 underdog team. In his last two starts, he’s gone 4-11 against the Cowboys and 19-38 against the Raiders. Along with two picks, Foles will struggle to move the ball against the Falcons. Matt Ryan has more weapons on offence (mainly Julio Jones) and the one-two punch between Freeman/Coleman is the key.

The second leg of this NFL multi is the New England Patriots defeating the Titans. Credit to the Titans for a road win against the Chiefs, but the Patriots are another beast. Also, the Titans were down 21-3 at half-time so they weren’t overly impressive and the betting says the same. The Pats are fresh from the bye and won three straight games before the playoffs. They’re 5-0 against the Titans and 5-0 when they face them at home. In home playoff games, the Patriots are 7-0. The Titans can run the ball effectively but they rank just 28th in the NFL for passing yards. Marcus Mariota will likely have to beat the Patriots in the air and we can’t see that happening.

In the third leg, we’re backing the Steelers to beat the Jaguars. Pittsburgh is rested from the week off and they have a 5-1 record in their last 6 home playoff games. They finished the season with a 4-1 record and will get Antonio Brown back after he missed the last two wins. While for the Jags, they beat the Bills 10-3 at home. But Blake Bortles will need to perform better in the air against this defence. He passed for just 87 yards and has 5 interceptions in his last 3 games. They did meet earlier this season and the Jaguars won 30-9 as Big Ben tossed 5 picks. However, he’s in much better form lately and we doubt that will happen again. The key will be Le’Veon Bell against the Jaguars 17th ranked rush defence. In the end, the Steelers are 3-1 against them and we’re backing them at home.

The fourth leg will be the Vikings getting the job done at home. The Saints were pretty lucky against the Panthers last week and they’ll face a tougher test against the Vikings. Minnesota finished the season with three straight wins and allowed just 17 total points in those games. They’re easily the best run defence in the NFL and that will force Drew Brees to throw the ball against their 5th ranked pass defence. They also rank in the top 10 for points scored, passing yards and rushing yards. So this Vikings team is an all-round beast. The two sides already met here in Week 1 and the Vikings beat them 29-19. The Saints are just 1-6 on the road against them and this will be a tough test. The Vikings are 11-1 in their last 12 and a perfect 5-0 at home. So back the Vikings here.
