2017 NRL Multi Round 1

The 2017 NRL season kicks off on Thursday night and we will take a look at five of the best value match ups every weekend and provide our NRL betting multi of the week.

To kick off the 2017 NRL season we will be backing the defending premiers the Cronulla Sharks to win on home soil against the Brisbane Broncos. The Sharks lost Ben Barba due to a drug scandal over the offseason and to make matters worse they will be without his original replacement Valentine Holmes due to injury. However, the side has a lot of class in the backline and still have a lot of points in them to break the Brisbane defence. Meanwhile the Broncos outside backs and forward pack has lost a lot of experience and it showed in their loss in the World Club Challenge. Anthony Milford and Ben Hunt have proven to be great attacking halves players but if their forward aren’t getting the go forward they can struggle. We predict it to be an issue against a strong Sharks pack in this one.

In the second leg of our multi we will be backing the Melbourne Storm to come out with a fire in their bellies and earn a win over the Canterbury Bulldogs in their opening match of the season. The Storm lost the 2016 grand final in a nail biter and the champions Cooper Cronk and Cameron Smith would have struggled sleeping over the offseason and will be keen to put it behind them. The side will be without Tohu Harris and Billy Slater due to injuries but Cameron Munster will replace Slater at the back like he did brilliantly last season. The Dogs will be looking for better attack this season but we can’t see it clicking for them straight away.

In our third leg we will be predicting the Penrith Panthers to make easy work of the St George Illawarra Dragons on Saturday. The Panthers are equal favourites for the premiership with the bookmakers and it is easy to see why. They have a lot of talented youth players and experienced heads in the club. The side should have no trouble scoring points and we are predicting the side put together a big score line in this one. The Dragons are struggling with personnel to fill key players and they won’t have the same defence that they did last year that kept them in games.

The Gold Coast Titans are coming off a successful season where they went above and beyond expectations. However, they will start 2017 with even more injured players than they entered 2016 with and we believe they won’t be able to upset the Sydney Roosters, even if they are playing on home soil. The Titans will have Kane Elgey partnering Ash Taylor for the first time in an NRL match while Jarryd Hayne will start for the side at fullback. Meanwhile the Roosters have recruited well and will be close to full strength in this one. They have avoided any offseason controversy and should cruise to a comfortable win in this one.

To wrap up our multi we are predicting the New Zealand Warriors to earn the win against the Newcastle Knights. The Warriors have a lot of high expectations with a new coach and Kieran Foran to come into the side. However, Foran won’t play for two weeks and Shaun Johnson will be heavily involved for the opening two rounds. Roger Tuivasa Sheck will return from injury and as he has been promoted to captain we are expecting him to have a big season. Meanwhile the KNights have a less experienced side then the one that only managed the one victory all year in 2016. We can’t see them heading to New Zealand and coming away with the victory.
