AFL Round 17 Multi of the Week

Round 17 of the 2015 AFL season looks like a great opportunity to try and secure a beefed up multi.

Our multi will feature three picks we consider ‘high confidence’ and a couple of tips we think offer tremendous value and allow the odds of the multi to beef up towards double figures.

Much has been said about the Adelaide Crows performance last week. They were fantastic in their emotional victory over archrivals the Port Adelaide Power and no doubt that win will give them confidence going into this game at Adelaide Oval against the Suns. The Crows are undefeated against Gold Coast and I think it will stay that way this weekend. The Suns have improved with Gary Ablett in their side, but ultimately the run of the Crows midfield, paired with big Sauce Jacobs’ and their home turf, will be too much for the Suns to handle.

The next pick in our multi is perhaps the most speculative of the five legs, but we just can’t look past Fremantle to beat Richmond at odds nearing $2. It is true that the Dockers were demoralised by the Hawks a fortnight ago, but they have still only lost two games this year. The Hawks also smashed the Swans last week and look like they are at their all-time best. The Tigers, meanwhile, might just be a little overhyped and definitely struggled in sections of their game against the Saints last week. The Dockers shouldn’t have trouble at the MCG and despite having Ballantyne out, are certainly value at this price.

Port Adelaide to beat Essendon is our second most confident pick of the entire multi. Essendon continue to really struggle and were certainly no good against the Kangaroos last week. The Power, however, are starting to show better form after a mid-season slump. Yes they have lost four of the last five (like the Bombers) but they have looked far more dangerous throughout that period. Port Adelaide were exceptionally good last round in their loss against the Crows and if their run is anywhere near that strong this week they will easily take care of the Bombers.

Next up we will be taking North Melbourne against the Lions and this is definitely the one we consider a ‘lock’. There are just zero reasons to think the Lions can beat the Kangaroos. The fact the game is at the Gabba is the only positive for the Lions, while the Roos have plenty of factors on their side. The Lions were just so bad against the Demons last week and the Roos should claim a very easy victory for their champion Brent Harvey who is playing his 400th game.

The fifth and final leg of our multi is another odds booster as we take St Kilda to beat Melbourne at $1.86. I really think the Saints should only be paying around $1.70 here. They were extremely solid against Richmond last week and if they can play like that, they will beat Melbourne. Yes, the Demons had a win last week, but it was only against a struggling Brisbane. Don’t get me wrong, the Demons are certainly improved, but with Jack Steven, David Armitage and Leigh Montagna gelling and Josh Bruce firing up forward, the Saints should be too strong.
