AFL Round 21 Multi of the Week

We are back with our ‘Multi of the Week’ for AFL Round 21 after managing to score our multi and a $391 return in Round 20.

Round 21 looks fairly tough with some speculative games, but if we do manage to win our multi, it is going to be at some juicy odds!

We will be skipping the Friday night game and taking Richmond to beat Collingwood on Saturday afternoon. The $1.45 odds for Richmond looks like value. After a misstep a fortnight ago the Tigers turned it around with a big performance against the Suns last week. With no chance of making the finals, you just get the sense the Pies will start experimenting with line ups and structures. The Tigers, meanwhile, will be looking to really start building momentum heading into September. They will also be desperately hoping for a top four spot. The Tigers beat the Pies in Round 5 of this year by 5 points and I expect them to win this one by a larger margin.

One of the most talked about games of the weekend will be Gold Coast Vs. Essendon. We won’t go into it too much here because it’s a broken record already, but no doubt it’s been a tough week for the Bombers with the departure of James Hird. I simply don’t see Hird’s departure being a ‘positive’ like Mick Matlhouse’s departure was at Carlton. This is a unique case of a broken team that wants to put this year behind them. The Suns, meanwhile, have played some better footy at times over the last few weeks and will be hoping to finish the year on a high note. This is at home and the Suns will have confidence against the Bombers.

Next up we like the Cats to beat St Kilda. I think the Cats are actually a bit over the odds here. They are ninth on the ladder at the moment and will be extremely fired up to make it through to September. The Cats also have a great record against the Saints and apart from their loss against the Hawks last week, have been playing some really good football. The Saints have been playing okay, but they have still only managed a single victory in five weeks.

The toughest game of our multi – but one which beefs up our odds – is the Dockers to beat North Melbourne. The bookies continue to give us some handy odds on the Dockers with the market currently at $1.95 against North Melbourne. The main reason for this is because the game is at Etihad, but we don’t think that is as big a factor as some would think. We have to remember the Dockers have only lost three games this year and that their loss last week was against the Eagles in a big derby game. The Roos, meanwhile, have won five in a row – against the bottom five sides! It wasn’t too long ago the Roos had lost to the Suns and GWS in consecutive weeks. There is just too much value on the Dockers here.

The final leg of our multi is for the Demons to beat the Blues on Sunday afternoon. This game being at the MCG is a plus for the Demons. They didn’t enjoy Etihad against the Dogs last week and will be eager to bounce back on their favourite ground. The Blues have all but locked up the wooden spoon after a 64 point loss to Brisbane last week and while the demons got done by almost 100 points, they are simply the better team. No doubt Paul Roos will force his team to get a bit of respect back after last week’s performance.
